OABA Committees
The proposed committees are designed to engage, enhance and build an outreach to OABA members.
Committee Chair/Member Expectations
Expectation of Chairs:
- Work with BOD to recruit and maintain needed member support to achieve goals
- Create committee goals in conjunction with the members for 2010 and submit to the BOD by the first of February
- Coordinate and lead a minimum of 9 monthly teleconference calls with committee members in order to achieve set goals for 2010. OABA has secured a teleconference service and all telecons are underwritten by OABA.
Expectation of Members:
- Enthusiastic participation in meeting committee goals
- Participation in 80% of committee meetings
- Active role in committee activities
AlpacaFest Weekend Volunteers:
- Complimentary Volunteer T-Shirt
- Web site recognition
AlpacaFest Show Committee
This committee is segmented into two groups: Halter Show and Fleece Show. In total there are four chairs and four members.
AlpacaFest Show Committee's Purpose
2 Halter Show Chairs
- Responsible for all aspects of the AlpacaFest Halter show, including registrations, stalling assignments and Friday Night dinner.
- Recruit and manage volunteers for the AlpacaFest
- Coordinate the Show Book Directory with the OABA selected printer.
2 Fleece Show Chairs
- Responsible for all aspects of the AlpacaFest Fleece show, including registrations, and the promotion of the fleece component of the show.
- Spinoff coordination for the AlpacaFest.
- Recruit and manage volunteers for the AlpacaFest Fleece Area.

Education Committee
There is one chair person and two members on this committee.
Education Committee's Purpose
- Providing quality education and professional development opportunities to its members.
- Coordinate OABA education related programs including membership meetings and the educational programs for AlpacaFest.
- Prepare quarterly articles for the OABA magazine.
- Enhance grant programs by creating guidelines for the OABA program to assist members in promoting alpacas to the public and educate breeders.

Fiber Committee
There is one chair person and four members on this committe.
Fiber Committee's Purpose
- Build public awareness and demand for Ohio Alpaca Fiber by all, through education, seminars, print materials and marketing venues.
- Educate membership as to the uses for their fiber as well as processing and manufacturing options.
- Further develop and enhance the OABA Store concept
- Create and coordinate additional OABA fiber related programs.
- Maintain contact with other industry fiber organizations and interact appropriately in order to enhance the overall fiber business model for all OABA members.

Government and Livestock Relations Committee's Purpose
- Maintain contact with other industry organizations and interact appropriately with state regulatory agencies.

Long Range Planning Committee
There is one chair person and four members on this committee.
Long Range Planning Committee's Purpose
- Establish a strategic planning process that results in specific recommendations to ensure the long term economic success of Ohio alpaca owners and breeders.
- Continually review and adapt a three, five and ten year plan and make recommendations to the board to help the Ohio Alpaca Industry grow.
- Responsible for selecting the members of the nominating team and overseeing the nominating teams selection process of the candidates for Board of Directors positions.
Magazine Committee
This committee is responsible for all aspects of managing the quarterly assembly & publication of the Ohio Alpaca Life magazine.
Magazine Committee's Purpose
1. Promote the Ohio alpaca industry in general, and OABA member businesses in particular, acting as a "portable printed ambassador" and providing an expanded online presence for the organization.
2. Support the fulfillment of OABA's major mission objectives: (Education, Alpacafest, Communication with the members, Promotion & Marketing of Ohio's alpacas & the virtues of their fiber).
3. Provide a lower cost & more frequently updated alternative to the previous member's handbook.
4. Provide an outlet for those advertisers wishing to specifically target & reach a concentrated area with the most alpaca farms and alpacas in the US, thus maximizing the benefits reaped for their advertising dollars.
5. Provide a positive revenue stream for OABA, better positioning it to fulfill the organization's projects.

Marketing Committee
There is one chair person and five members on this committe.
Marketing Committee's Purpose
- Educate the public about the unique benefits of Ohio Alpaca ownership and the availability of Ohio Alpaca products.
- The areas of focus include Advertising, Public Relations, and Web site.
- Advertising
- Coordinate advertising for the AlpacaFest
- Create marketing collateral pieces for the membership
- Public Relations
- Provide media with ideas/press releases for coverage of state wide events and state wide interest stories.
- Write and submit monthly “Paca Pointers” for the website-tips on how to market your business.
- Create and coordinate additional opportunities for regional farms to tie into community events and county Visitors and Convention Bureaus.
- Web site development—continued effort towards refining layout and updating information so it can be used as a primary tool for member.

Membership Committee
There is one chair person and five members on this committee.
Membership Committee's Purpose
- Evaluate the needs and concerns of the membership to foster retention and the needs and concerns of future members to promote growth.
- Oversee membership drive at AlpacaFest annually Responsible for the production of the annual OABA Membership Directory Assemble a membership packet of information for prospective and new members.
- Responsible for participating at OABA sponsored shows and additional livestock shows in order to share the OABA goals and Ohio Alpaca Ownership ideals.
- Secure meeting venues for OABA meetings throughout the year for the membership.
- Youth group liason for OABA-work with state 4H and FFA youth groups in order to develop potential leaders, personal growth and success in the Ohio alpaca livestock industry

Website Committee
The purpose of this committee is to help oversee & maintain the OABA website.
Website Committee's Purpose
1. Oversee & help maintain the content of the webpage, ensuring that the content is frequently updated, and is presented in a well organized and visually appealing fashion.
2. Interface with the hired programming contractor retained by the organization, directing that person, as necessary to perform upgrades or fixes to the programmed routines in the website.
3. Research the need for enhanced capabilities for the website over time, in order to provide add'l services to the members, should they request them.
4. Respond to requests from the Board of Directors to post board meeting minutes or add additional information/content of their choosing.
